The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners has officially designated November 2024 as National Family Caregivers Month, joining a nationwide effort to honor the 90 million family caregivers in the United States. This annual observance, developed by the Caregiver Action Network, highlights the contributions of caregivers who provide essential care and support to loved ones, often at significant personal sacrifice.

This year’s theme, “I Care,” emphasizes the dedication and love caregivers bring to their roles, offering a poignant reminder of the selflessness it takes to care for ill, disabled, or elderly family members. Caregivers often devote countless hours to ensuring their loved ones maintain a high quality of life, frequently facing emotional and physical challenges, including burnout and compassion fatigue.
The Calvert County Office on Aging is actively addressing these challenges through various support initiatives. Services include caregiver grants to provide respite, consultations, educational programs, and connections to local resources and community programs. These efforts aim to ease the burden of caregiving while fostering a supportive environment for those navigating the complexities of care.
The Commissioners encourage all citizens to celebrate and recognize the invaluable contributions of caregivers in their communities. “Caregiving is often a 24/7 commitment,” the statement notes, “and it is vital to support those who selflessly provide care and comfort to their loved ones.”
National Family Caregivers Month serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and community support, urging everyone to acknowledge the dedication of caregivers and the pivotal role they play in families across the nation.
