CHESAPEAKE BEACH, MD – On December 2, 2024, Marliana Zahedi-Mullis of Chesapeake Beach was convicted of animal cruelty in Calvert County District Court. The conviction followed a months-long investigation by Calvert County Animal Control, uncovering severe neglect at her residence.

In May 2024, authorities launched an investigation into Zahedi-Mullis, who operated “3 Acres Rescue” from her home at 3910 Breezy Point Road. A search warrant executed with assistance from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office revealed troubling conditions inside the residence. Officials discovered 73 dogs housed in unsanitary cages covered in urine and feces. Many of the animals lacked access to clean food and water, and several were in dire need of veterinary care.

Zahedi-Mullis was sentenced to 150 days of incarceration, which was suspended, and placed on three years of probation. As part of her probation, she is prohibited from operating any animal rescue activities at her residence and is subject to routine inspections by Calvert County Animal Control to ensure compliance.

Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher Monte prosecuted the case, with State’s Attorney Harvey commending the efforts of Calvert County Animal Control for their thorough investigation and securing the conviction. “Their dedication to the welfare of these animals was critical to bringing justice in this case,” Harvey stated.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance in preventing animal cruelty and ensuring that individuals tasked with animal care adhere to appropriate standards.
