The Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) has announced the passing of Lynda Mae Bowman, an Honorary Board Member and tireless advocate for community engagement. Bowman, 81, of Lusby, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2024. Born October 3, 1943, in Washington, D.C., to James Marshall and Doris Mae (Spahr) Carpenter, Bowman dedicated decades of service to CAASA and her community, leaving a legacy of action, leadership, and unwavering commitment.

Bowman began her involvement with CAASA in the mid-1990s, serving on the Board of Directors and later as a member of the Honorary Board until her passing. Known for her tireless work ethic, warm smile, and candid spirit, she was a driving force behind CAASA’s mission. In a statement, the organization reflected on her impact, noting, “Her passion for community involvement was inspiring, often encouraging others with her motto: ‘Don’t just talk about it—do something.’”

Her dedication extended to her role as the White Sands Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. Bowman organized National Night Out events, bringing residents together to promote safety and unity. Her leadership in fostering a secure and connected community was a testament to her commitment to creating a better environment for all.

Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Bowman; daughter, Rhonda Charest; grandson, Matthew Charest; brother, Keith Carpenter; and sons-in-law, Matthew Charest and Martin Jackson. She is survived by her beloved dog, Nina; her children Diana Stoaks of Prince Frederick, Elizabeth “Liz” Newman and her husband Anthony of Meredosia, IL, and George Francis “Frank” Jackson, Jr. and his wife Diana of St. Leonard; grandchildren Brandi Briggs and her husband Kenny, Frankie Jackson and his wife Lauren, Heather O’Donnell and her husband John, William Charest and his wife Dawn, and Kenneth Charest; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Gary Carpenter and his wife Laura and Greg Carpenter and his wife Ronda; and sisters Marsha Krashoc and her husband John and Virginia Carpenter Riley.

Bowman’s contributions extended beyond her accomplishments. She will be remembered for her candid and welcoming personality, inspiring countless individuals to take an active role in their communities. Her actions embodied her belief in the power of collective effort and left an enduring mark on those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rausch Funeral Home-Owings, located at 8325 Mt. Harmony Lane, Owings, MD 20736. Additional visitation will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, located at 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.

The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at the church, with interment immediately after at Southern Memorial Gardens, located at 10155 Ward Road, Dunkirk, MD 20754.

In a heartfelt message, CAASA shared, “The loss of Lynda Mae Bowman is deeply felt. Her legacy of commitment and action will continue to inspire us all.”
