Waldorf, MD — A familiar face will lead the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs into their 2025 season, as Stan Cliburn returns for his seventh year as manager. Cliburn, already a baseball legend with over 50 years of experience in the game, continues to cement his legacy as one of the most successful managers in minor league history.

Cliburn made headlines in 2024 by reaching a career milestone of 2,000 managerial wins, joining an elite group of just 14 managers to achieve this feat. His career total now stands at 2,015 victories, spanning roles in Single-A through Triple-A, as well as over 1,000 wins in independent league baseball.

For the Blue Crabs, Cliburn has brought stability and achievement. Over his six seasons at the helm, the team has reached the playoffs three times and recorded an 83-win season in 2022, a campaign that included setting an Atlantic League record for first-half winning percentage at .727. While that record was surpassed last year by Gastonia, Cliburn’s leadership has left an indelible mark on the franchise. His current 391-391 record with the Blue Crabs underscores his ability to keep the team competitive year after year.

Cliburn is eager to embrace the challenges of the 2025 season and hinted at changes to come:

“I’m happy to be returning to manage the Blue Crabs for the 2025 season! We will have some new faces joining the team for this upcoming season, and I am excited to hit the baseball trails to find the right fit for a successful on-field campaign for 2025! I look forward and hope to see you all at the ballpark again. Go Blue Crabs!”

Blue Crabs General Manager Courtney Knichel praised Cliburn’s contributions and highlighted the optimism surrounding his return:

“Stan is one of the most accomplished managers in minor league history, and this franchise has had many successes under Stan’s leadership. I am excited to welcome everyone back to Regency Furniture Stadium, and to see what 2025 brings.”

The Blue Crabs have come to rely on Cliburn’s experience as a steadying force, particularly in the highly competitive Atlantic League. With Cliburn leading the charge, fans can expect a mix of veteran leadership and fresh talent as the team aims to build on its past successes.

The 2025 season will mark the Blue Crabs’ 17th year in the Atlantic League. The team opens its campaign on April 25 at Regency Furniture Stadium against the High Point Rockers, with the first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. As excitement builds for the upcoming season, fans are encouraged to check the Blue Crabs’ website and social media platforms for updates on promotional schedules and other announcements.

As Cliburn prepares for another year in the dugout, one thing is clear: his return is a win for the Blue Crabs and their loyal fanbase. With his proven track record and commitment to excellence, the team is poised to make 2025 another memorable chapter in its history.
