WASHINGTON, D.C.– Stanley has recalled approximately 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the U.S. due to reports of lids detaching during use, posing a burn hazard. Consumers are urged to stop using the mugs immediately and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid.

The recall involves 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. double-walled stainless steel mugs, sold in multiple colors, including white, black, and green. The mugs feature the Stanley logo on the front and bottom, with the following product identification numbers printed on the bottom:

The lids can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing them to detach, which poses a significant burn hazard, particularly when used with hot liquids.
Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide of lids detaching, including 16 incidents in the U.S.. These reports include 38 burn injuries worldwide, with two U.S. injuries. Of these cases, 11 required medical attention.
The recalled travel mugs were sold from June 2016 through December 2024 at retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and others, as well as online. Prices ranged from $20 to $50, depending on the model.
