LEONARDTOWN, Md., —The Friends of St. Clement’s Island & Piney Point Museums, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting historic sites in St. Mary’s County, has received a $10,000 grant from Maryland Humanities through the Hatza Memorial SHINE (Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity) Grant Program.
“This grant funding is a tremendous honor for our organization,” said Dale Springer, President of the Friends of St. Clement’s Island & Piney Point Lighthouse Museums. “These funds will help us continue our mission to support and preserve local history while providing educational and leisure programming through our museums here in St. Mary’s County.”

The grant will provide crucial operating funds for the organization, including support for salaries, utilities, equipment, and programs. By offering full flexibility, the SHINE Grant empowers nonprofits to allocate resources where they are most needed, ensuring the sustainability of their missions.
The Friends of St. Clement’s Island & Piney Point Museums work closely with St. Mary’s County Government’s Museum Division to oversee historic sites and engage the community in the region’s rich history. These funds will bolster efforts to maintain exhibits, host events, and preserve key landmarks for future generations.
