PRINCE FREDERICK, Md., —The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) celebrated the distinguished career and upcoming retirement of Mary Beth Cook, Director of Planning & Zoning, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the county over more than three decades of service. Cook’s retirement is set for January 10, 2025.

Mary Beth Cook began her career with Calvert County Government on April 19, 1993, as an engineer with the Department of Public Works. Her commitment and leadership quickly earned her a promotion to project engineer. In February 2008, Cook transitioned to the Department of Planning & Zoning, where she was appointed deputy director.

In 2020, Cook was named director of Planning & Zoning, a role in which she has overseen critical initiatives, guided sustainable development, and contributed to Calvert County’s growth and success.

During her tenure, Cook’s professionalism and dedication have left an indelible mark on Calvert County. She played a pivotal role in planning projects and initiatives that will have a lasting impact on the community.

“As Mary Beth prepares to retire, her legacy of professionalism, dedication, and positive impact will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps,” the BOCC shared.

Mary Beth Cook’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Calvert County’s history, but her influence will continue to guide the county’s future. The commissioners expressed their gratitude for her service and wished her well in her retirement.
