CHARLES COUNTY, Md.—Over the past week, multiple incidents involving student misconduct have been reported across several Charles County Public Schools (CCPS). These incidents include possession of THC vaping devices, cannabis, and weapons, as well as assaults. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and school resource officers are actively investigating these cases, with disciplinary actions being pursued in accordance with the CCPS Student Code of Conduct.
Incident Reports






Smallwood Middle School
On December 16, a student was found in possession of a vape device that tested positive for THC. The student received a juvenile civil citation and faces disciplinary actions. PFC Miedzinski is investigating.
Thomas Stone High School
- Cannabis Possession and Assault: On December 16 at 12:09 p.m., a student was found in possession of 28 grams of cannabis in a school bathroom. When confronted by a school administrator and a school resource officer (SRO), the student attempted to flee, resisted, and kicked the officer during the struggle. The student was charged on a juvenile offense report with assault and received a civil citation for cannabis possession. Disciplinary measures are being enforced by CCPS. - THC Vaping Device: On December 20, a 19-year-old student was found smoking a THC vape device in the restroom. The student was charged with an adult civil citation and faces disciplinary action. PFC Ondrish is investigating.
La Plata High School
On December 16, a student assaulted another student, throwing them against a wall and repeatedly striking them. The victim was taken to a medical facility by their parent for treatment. The aggressor will be charged on a juvenile offense report with assault and faces disciplinary consequences. M/Cpl. Burger is investigating.
JP Ryon Elementary School
On December 17, a 9-year-old student was found in possession of a knife on school property following a tip. Due to Maryland law, the student was not charged but will face disciplinary action. PFC Hancock investigated.
Westlake High School
On December 20, during an administrative search prompted by the smell of cannabis, a Youth Engagement Advocate discovered a knife in a student’s pocket. The weapon was turned over to the SRO, and the student will face charges and disciplinary consequences. PFC Joffe is investigating.
CCSO and CCPS Response
The CCSO, in collaboration with CCPS, emphasizes its commitment to maintaining a safe school environment. Each incident is being addressed in accordance with Maryland law and the CCPS Student Code of Conduct.
