Two families in Southern Maryland celebrated the start of 2025 in the most memorable way—welcoming new additions into the world at local hospitals.

MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital: A Historic First for 2025

For Alvine and Mukoh, what began as a honeymoon ended in an unexpected but joyous adventure when their baby, Racheal, became the first child born at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in 2025. The couple, originally planning to return to Belgium, had to postpone their flight after Alvine was advised against traveling due to pregnancy-related risks.

On December 31, just hours before midnight, Alvine went into labor. Weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 20.2 inches, baby Racheal made her entrance, becoming the hospital’s first newborn of the year.

The proud parents are thrilled about their daughter’s special birthday. “It’s awesome,” Alvine said. “The whole nation and everyone will get to celebrate her birthday with her!”

Once cleared to travel, the family plans to return to Belgium, where they will embrace the challenges and joys of parenthood.

CalvertHealth Medical Center: Welcoming Aurora

Meanwhile, Shelby and Jacob Camp of Prince Frederick celebrated a new beginning of their own when their daughter, Aurora, was born on January 3, 2025. Aurora is the first baby born at CalvertHealth Medical Center in the new year, making her arrival a cherished moment for her family and the hospital staff.

The Camps expressed gratitude for the excellent care they received and excitement about starting the new year as a family of three. Aurora’s birth marks a joyous occasion not only for her parents but also for the community celebrating a bright start to 2025.

A Joyful Start to the New Year

These two births reflect the hope and excitement that a new year brings. Both MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and CalvertHealth Medical Center were delighted to help these families begin their journeys as parents, underscoring their commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.

As the families of Racheal and Aurora embrace parenthood, they remind us of the miracles that define life’s most precious moments. Congratulations to both families on their new beginnings!
