Horseshoe Casino Baltimore—an urban, two-story establishment—was recently evacuated due to water damage. Guests and staff were evacuated after water pipe failure was spotted, putting the casino out of commission for a day. The small setback didn’t last long, as the casino was reopened on Monday.

Maryland has favorable gambling laws, with in-person betting being fully legal. In addition to partaking in the lottery and gambling in brick-and-mortar casinos, Maryland’s residents can indulge in online gambling, as well. Many forms of online gambling are legal in the state, including sweepstakes casinos – also known as social casinos.

Playing for real money is legal and regulated in many other US states, which usually offer an extensive selection of online casinos to players. 2024 has brought many new online casinos to the market, with many of them having ratings that can put some of the oldest casinos to shame. As reviewed on SportsCasting, the best-rated new online casinos offer exciting games, big bonuses, and a truly modern gaming experience.

As far as Maryland is concerned, the state’s residents can indulge in online sports betting, daily fantasy sports, and horse race wagering. Of course, they can also go for the most genuine casino experience by visiting the newly reopened Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore.

The damage to the casino wasn’t serious, even though photos suggested otherwise. There are videos showing a hole in the ceiling near the gaming machines with water falling out of it. The footage from the casino also shows that a part of the ceiling collapsed due to water damage, leading the casino officials to shut down the place until it gets repaired.

They didn’t want to risk guests getting wet or hurt, which could result in a lawsuit. Even though the damage wasn’t extensive, the evacuation was taken as a precautionary measure, giving the casino’s team enough time to clean up at the same time.

The team in charge of the clean-up did a wonderful job, finishing the same day the casino was reopened.

This incident came at the worst time possible – the end of the year. Luckily, the casino officials were able to fix the damage and clean everything up before Christmas, which is a huge source of revenue for the Horseshoe Casino. Visitors who receive a holiday bonus tend to spend a part of it on the casino’s most popular games, such as table games and slots.

The Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore brings in impressive amounts every year, with revenue of $14.3 million in November attesting to that fact. These numbers come from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming, which regulates gaming operations in all casinos across Maryland. Overall, Maryland had a gross gaming revenue of $2.50 billion in 2023.

With a 122,000 sq. ft. gaming floor and a World Series of Poker room, it’s no wonder the casino is pulling in impressive figures. The fact that you can simply hop over to a 20,000 sq. ft. ‘Baltimore Marketplace’ for world-class wining and dining certainly helps, as casino visitors can enjoy three premier restaurants with a wide array of food and beverage offerings.
