The St. Mary’s College of Maryland sailing team closed out their fall season with a commanding performance at the 18-team Rose Bowl regatta, held January 4-5 and hosted by the University of Southern California.

The Seahawks secured the title with a score of 31, finishing 19 points ahead of Boston College (50) and 22 points ahead of Georgetown University (53), who placed second and third, respectively.

Division A Highlights

In Division A, senior skipper Owen Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Severn) and senior crew Brooke Bertrand (Costa Mesa, Calif./Corona del Mar) delivered a strong performance, securing second place with 22 points. The duo trailed Georgetown by just four points while finishing ahead of Tulane University by the same margin.

Hennessey and Bertrand showcased their skill by winning Race 6A and claiming second place in Races 1A and 4A.

Division B Dominance

Senior captains Charlie Anderson (West River, Md./Key) and Zoe Hoctor (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) dominated Division B, earning first place with an impressive nine-point score. The pair won three of the six races and finished as runners-up in the remaining three (Races 3B, 4B, and 5B). Their 14-point margin over second-place Boston College (23) and third-place U.S. Coast Guard Academy (27) solidified their standout performance.

Looking Ahead

The Seahawks will kick off their spring season on February 22-23 at the Quad Team Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, starting at 10 a.m.

This victory caps a successful fall season and sets the tone for the Seahawks as they prepare for the spring circuit.
