Indian Head, MD (Jan. 8, 2025) – A single-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon in Indian Head claimed the life of a local resident. Maryland State Police and Charles County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 2:24 p.m. on Maryland Route 344, near Maryland Route 224.
According to preliminary findings by the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and the MSP CRASH Team, a Dodge Durango driven by Gary McPhatter, 64, of Indian Head, veered off the road for reasons yet to be determined and collided head-on with a tree.
Emergency responders from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and EMS attempted life-saving measures, but McPhatter was pronounced deceased at the scene.
