
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Jan. 11, 2025) – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has announced the appointment of Jason Brinkley as the new Director of Planning & Zoning, effective January 11, 2025.
Brinkley brings over a decade of experience in public sector leadership and legal counsel to his new position. He has served as the Deputy Director of Planning & Zoning and was the county’s first ombudsman, advocating for fairness and equity for residents.
With 13 years in county government and 15 years of legal practice in government, business law, and civil litigation, Brinkley has a proven track record of leadership. During his tenure as the top administrative official in Cooke County, Texas, he implemented initiatives that delivered fiscal savings and enhanced public services, showcasing his ability to support sustainable development and operational efficiency.
“Jason’s dedication and service to our community, coupled with his experience in county government and legal practice, uniquely position him to lead the Department of Planning & Zoning,” said BOCC President Earl F. “Buddy” Hance. “I am confident in his leadership and know he will continue to exceed our expectations in this new role, ensuring that the citizens of Calvert County are well-served.”
In addition to his government experience, Brinkley has worked in the private sector as a business development manager and consultant, managing public sector projects. His past role as Justice of the Peace for Cooke County further reflects his commitment to fairness and ethical governance.

Brinkley holds a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law, a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University.
