Calvert County has introduced a new online billing portal designed to simplify account management for its water and sewer customers. The user-friendly platform is aimed at improving convenience and accessibility for the more than 5,000 residents served by the county’s utility services.
The updated system allows customers to pay bills quickly without logging in, submit service requests, and access their consumption history. Designed to work seamlessly on any device, the mobile-friendly portal ensures customers can manage their accounts wherever they are.
According to JR Cosgrove, Director of Public Works, this upgrade represents the county’s commitment to enhancing service delivery. “By offering greater convenience and improved access, we hope to make it easier for customers to manage their accounts and request service,” he said.
In addition to the portal, residents will notice a redesigned bill format that is more straightforward and easier to understand.
Encouraging Conservation with Tiered Billing
A new tiered billing structure also took effect on July 1, 2024, as part of the county’s efforts to encourage responsible water use. The structure incentivizes conservation by offering lower rates for smaller amounts of water usage while increasing rates for higher consumption levels.
The four-tier system is as follows:
- Tier 1: Up to 4,500 gallons per quarter
- Tier 2: 4,501 to 18,000 gallons per quarter
- Tier 3: 18,001 to 108,000 gallons per quarter
- Tier 4: More than 108,000 gallons per quarter
This tiered system is designed to ensure that most households pay lower rates for essential water use, while larger-scale consumption incurs progressively higher costs. The changes only affect Calvert County Water & Sewer customers; residents using private well and septic systems or municipal water services will not be impacted.
Resources for Residents
To help residents adapt to these changes, the county has introduced several resources, including an online bill calculator and conservation tips. Customers can access these tools and other information through the county’s website or by contacting the Water & Sewer Billing Office directly.
For those facing financial challenges, the Department of Community Resources offers payment assistance programs. Residents are encouraged to reach out for support by calling 410-535-1600, ext. 8803 or emailing community.resources@calvertcountymd.gov.
