The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery will display a photograph of President-elect Donald J. Trump beginning January 13, 2025, in anticipation of the 60th presidential inauguration on January 20. The portrait, taken in 2019 by photographer Pari Dukovic for Time magazine, features Trump seated at the Resolute Desk, a historic fixture of the Oval Office since 1880, with few exceptions. The photograph will be on view until February 11, 2025, on the museum’s first floor near the “Recent Acquisitions” exhibition.

This temporary installation will complement another photograph of Trump by Matt McClain, taken in 2017 for The Washington Post. The McClain portrait is part of the National Portrait Gallery’s “America’s Presidents” exhibition, the only comprehensive collection of presidential portraits outside the White House. The exhibition chronicles the history of the presidency through a complete timeline of portraits, offering insight into the office’s evolution.
The official Smithsonian-commissioned portrait of Trump will be unveiled after the conclusion of his presidency. Trump is the only U.S. president besides Grover Cleveland to serve nonconsecutive terms, securing his return to the White House after leaving office in 2021.
