The Maryland Freedom Caucus has issued a strong rebuke of Governor Wes Moore’s latest budget proposal, accusing it of imposing additional financial burdens on Maryland residents while presenting itself as a reform. In a press release, the caucus labeled the budget a “deceptive scheme” that increases taxes and fees under the guise of fiscal responsibility.
The caucus claims the budget inflates spending and introduces new tax brackets while eliminating deductions, resulting in higher overall taxes for families. They also highlighted specific fee increases, including those on grocery and Amazon deliveries, as well as elevated emissions inspection fees. According to the caucus, these measures will exacerbate the already high cost of living in Maryland.
“This budget isn’t balanced—it’s a deceptive scheme dressed up as reform that shifts the burden onto average residents,” the release states. “Marylanders will reject this plan. They deserve real relief, not a gaslighting budget designed to mislead and overburden families.”
The Maryland Freedom Caucus vowed to continue examining and exposing what they describe as misleading elements of the budget in the coming days.
