A marked Anne Arundel County Police vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run property damage crash on December 28, 2024. Following an investigation, authorities identified the vehicle and determined that the driver was Corporal Russell Ruehl, an off-duty officer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

On January 27, 2025, Corporal Ruehl was charged via multiple traffic citations for his involvement in the crash. Ruehl has been with the department for five years and is assigned to the Bureau of Community Services.

As a result of the charges, Corporal Ruehl has been administratively suspended without pay while the department’s Office of Professional Standards conducts an investigation.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department emphasized that the matter is being reviewed thoroughly to maintain accountability and transparency within the department.
