Leonardtown, Md. – St. Mary’s County Library has been selected as one of over 100 public libraries nationwide to receive funding from the Public Library Association (PLA) to enhance digital literacy using resources from DigitalLearn.org. The initiative is powered by a $2.7 million contribution from AT&T. The library has been awarded approximately $14,000 to support free classes, drop-in sessions, and personalized one-on-one tech help for residents of St. Mary’s County.

Free Classes to Build Digital Skills

St. Mary’s County Library will offer free classes at its three locations, covering topics such as:

  • Internet Basics
  • Video Conferencing Basics
  • Cybersecurity Basics
  • Email Basics
  • Computer Basics (Windows 10)
  • Mobile Device Basics (Android and iOS)

Classes in Spanish will also be available at the Lexington Park Library. Participants who complete one or more classes will receive a $10 gift card, while supplies last.

Drop-In Tech Help and Individual Sessions

In addition to the structured classes, the library will host Get Tech Smart: Drop-In Tech Help sessions at all three locations. These sessions are designed to help residents gain confidence in using their phones, tablets, or computers. No registration is required, and refreshments will be provided.

For those unable to attend the drop-in sessions, one-on-one tech help with library staff can be scheduled by phone or through the library’s website.

Supporting Community Growth

“People seeking to develop or brush up on their computer skills will find a welcoming environment and informative sessions,” said Michael Blackwell, St. Mary’s County Library Director. “Digital literacy skills are vital, and the library is delighted to receive this grant to help St. Mary’s County residents enhance their digital abilities and comfort.”

This grant supports the PLA’s Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive and Digital Navigator Workshop Incentive programs, which aim to improve digital skills in communities using DigitalLearn.org resources. These materials, created in collaboration with AT&T, are freely available to anyone.
