Our Spotlight on the Arts for February 2025 shines brightly on a multi-talented artist, Bethany Yeh!
How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I am a Christian singer-songwriter who wants to share my experiences and life through song. I want to put honest and real songs out into the world that people will find both encouraging and uplifting.
How long have you been a singer-songwriter?
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I began taking formal lessons at the age of nine, with a focus on musical theater and classical music. About five years ago, my passion shifted toward writing and performing my own songs, and I felt a strong calling from God to pursue a new direction in my music. This shift would allow me to express what He has truly put on my heart.
Tell us about your debut single, Still Small Voice, which is releasing on January 31st!
Still Small Voice is such a special song to me for so many reasons! Beyond it being my debut single, the meaning behind the song is something that has grown with me ever since I wrote it.
In this song, I share how God created me and everyone in this world with a purpose (Psalm 139: 14-16), and I explore the struggle that I feel in giving up control and trusting God with the unknown. The title of the song, “Still Small Voice,” encapsulates the message of God’s subtle communication, a gentle whisper that can be heard when one is still and attentive.
I took inspiration from a story in the Bible where, following a mighty wind, an earthquake, and a fire, God talks to the prophet Elijah in a still small voice (1 Kings 19:11-12). Through all the uncertainties in life, I have peace that God is in control. God’s still small voice faithfully speaks to reassure and guide me as I study His word and grow in my faith.
Do you have any projects in the works for 2025?
As an artist, I am always brainstorming ideas for new song lyrics and melodies. My goal is to release more of my own music. I am also excited at the prospect of collaborating with other artists on some more writing projects.
What are a few of your other interests or occupations outside of art?
I work at two local nonprofits, Care Net of SOMD and Young Life St. Mary’s. In my free time, I also enjoy knitting, reading, roller skating, and spending time outdoors.
Anything else that you would like to share?
I am very excited to be able to share my music with a growing audience, and I hope it encourages everyone who listens. I also want everyone to know that they are made with a purpose and are precious in the eyes of God.
