A Lexington Park woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Sunday, February 9, 2025, prompting an investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 21000 block of Great Mills Road near the Crossroads Apartments at approximately 2:29 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 2015 Nissan Armada and a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt had collided. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 59-year-old Kathy Mae Davis of Lexington Park, was ejected from her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to investigate. A preliminary report determined that both vehicles were traveling in lane two of Great Mills Road toward Westbury Boulevard when the Nissan, driven by 20-year-old Zykera Sharnae Shubrooks-Nunley of Lexington Park, struck the rear of the Chevrolet. The impact forced Davis’s vehicle into a telephone pole, causing it to overturn and eject her from the car.
Shubrooks-Nunley was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Investigators believe that speed and driver error were contributing factors in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it to contact Corporal Jason Smith at 301-475-4200, ext. 2328.
