A strong winter storm is sweeping across the Mid-Atlantic, bringing heavy snowfall, gusty winds, and hazardous travel conditions to the region. Forecasters predict that snow accumulations could reach several inches in parts of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., with icy roads and reduced visibility making travel dangerous. The storm, which began moving into the area late Tuesday evening, is expected to continue through Wednesday morning, prompting schools, government offices, and military installations to adjust their schedules in response to the inclement weather.
Officials are urging residents to stay off the roads if possible, as road crews work to clear snow and treat surfaces to prevent dangerous ice buildup. With temperatures expected to remain below freezing for much of the day, the impact of the storm is likely to persist into Wednesday afternoon. In response to the winter weather, several school districts, town governments, and military bases have announced closures, virtual learning schedules, and delays.
