The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and King George County, Virginia, warning of accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions. The advisory is in effect from February 19 at 1:47 p.m. until February 20 at 1 a.m., with a second advisory in place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on February 20.
Forecasters expect up to two inches of snow from the first weather event, which is anticipated to continue through the Wednesday evening commute. The second round of snowfall on Thursday morning may bring an additional inch, with temperatures forecasted to remain well below freezing.

Drivers should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. The first snowfall is expected to coincide with peak traffic hours, increasing the risk of accidents and delays. The second wave of snow will likely create slick conditions as early-morning temperatures drop into the upper teens and low 20s.
Authorities urge residents to use caution while traveling, as untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become particularly hazardous. Commuters should allow extra time, drive at reduced speeds, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
For updated forecasts and road conditions, check with the National Weather Service, Maryland State Highway Administration, or Virginia Department of Transportation before heading out.
