Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 28000 block of Livingston Road in Mechanicsville early this morning after receiving a report of two unresponsive individuals.

Officers arrived at approximately 4:10 a.m. and entered the home, where they found two adults on a couch, both suffering from gunshot wounds. A firearm was located nearby. Emergency medical personnel pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene.

The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Julia Ann Money and 46-year-old Daniel Lewis Money. Authorities contacted and notified their next of kin following identification.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division took over the case and are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Based on initial findings, investigators believe the situation to be a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not released details regarding a potential motive or the events leading up to the shooting.

Law enforcement has not indicated any history of prior calls for service at the residence. Authorities are working to confirm whether the incident was a result of domestic violence or another underlying factor. While no additional suspects are being sought, detectives are conducting interviews and reviewing any available evidence to establish a clear timeline of events.

Authorities stress that while early findings suggest a murder-suicide, additional investigative steps, including forensic analysis and witness statements, will contribute to a final determination. Investigators typically review medical examiner reports, ballistic testing, and other forensic evidence in such cases to rule out any alternative possibilities. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed whether the firearm was legally owned.

Incidents involving domestic violence remain a significant concern for law enforcement agencies. Authorities urge individuals experiencing domestic conflicts to seek support through available local and national resources. The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential assistance 24/7 at 800-799-7233.
