WALDORF, Md. — A brush and grass fire broke out Friday in the 14900 block of Bassford Road, prompting a swift response from local fire crews and a request for assistance from the Maryland Forest Service.

Reported at approximately 3:00 pm. on March 28, 2025, the blaze engulfed a 200-by-200-foot area of woods, raising concerns due to its proximity to Gallant Green and Bassford Roads. Command units on the scene confirmed that firefighters were gaining control of the fire, though officials urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in the area.

The incident began as a working alert, with initial reports indicating that the fire was spreading through dense woodland. Firefighters deployed to the scene quickly worked to establish containment lines, mitigating the risk of the blaze expanding further

The Maryland Forest Service was called in to assist, likely due to the fire’s location in a wooded area and the potential for challenging terrain or fuel loads.
