BALTIMORE — The Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-4 on April 3, 2025, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, improving their record to 3-4 in the American League East. The Orioles, also 3-4, suffered their fourth loss of the young season, dropping to fourth in the division standings. Boston’s offense erupted for 11 hits, including three home runs, to secure the victory in front of 16,656 fans.

Alex Bregman led the Red Sox attack, going 3-for-5 with a two-run homer in the first inning off Orioles starter Charlie Morton. Bregman’s blast set the tone early, driving in two of his three RBIs on the day. Kody Campbell added a two-run shot in the second, and Triston Casas sealed a key moment with a two-run homer in the seventh off reliever Keegan Akin. The Red Sox tallied eight runs, capitalizing on Morton’s struggles as he allowed five earned runs over five innings, falling to 0-2 with a 9.72 ERA.

Boston’s pitching staff, despite a shaky start from Tanner Houck, held firm. Houck surrendered three runs in four innings, including a solo homer to Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins in the first. Zack Kelly earned the win (1-0, 0.00 ERA) with a scoreless fifth, while relievers Justin Wilson, Justin Slaten, and Garrett Whitlock combined for four innings, allowing just one run. Whitlock closed out the game, navigating a double by Jackson Holliday in the ninth.

The Orioles struggled to keep pace despite eight hits. Mullins, who went 1-for-3 with a walk and stole a base, opened the scoring with his third homer of the season. Baltimore added runs in the third, fourth, and ninth via RBI singles from Jordan Westburg, Ramón Urías, and Dylan Carlson, respectively. However, Morton’s early exit and a quiet day from key bats like Tyler O’Neill (0-for-4) and Ryan O’Hearn (0-for-4) stymied their comeback hopes.

Boston’s offense peaked in the seventh when Casas’ homer off Akin pushed the lead to 7-3. Bregman added an insurance run in the ninth with an RBI single off Matt Bowman. The Red Sox converted 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five on base, while the Orioles went 2-for-6 but stranded six runners, including two in scoring position.

Fielding was clean on both sides, with no errors recorded. Boston turned two double plays, courtesy of Trevor Story, Campbell, and Casas, while Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman and Westburg each grounded into one. The game, played under overcast skies with a temperature of 71 degrees and a 12 mph wind blowing out to left field, lasted 2 hours and 42 minutes.

Mullins’ early homer gave Baltimore a brief lead, but Boston’s power surge quickly shifted momentum. The Red Sox, now in fifth place in the AL East, look to build on the win, while the Orioles aim to rebound from their second straight loss to a division rival.
