Hospice of the Chesapeake has appointed Christine Wilson as the new Executive Director of the Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation, a role created following the upcoming retirement of Chief Advancement Officer Shauna Chabot. Chabot, who has led the organization’s advancement efforts for 14 years, will retire on April 15, 2025. Wilson, currently the Director of Advancement, will assume her new position to oversee fundraising initiatives critical to the nonprofit’s mission.
Wilson’s tenure with Hospice of the Chesapeake began in June 2008 when she joined as the Corporate and Community Relations Coordinator. Her strong performance led to a promotion to manager, and by December 2017, she was named Director of Advancement. In her new role, Wilson will lead a team tasked with raising approximately $4 million annually. These funds support hospice care services not reimbursed by Medicare or traditional insurance, ensuring the organization can continue providing end-of-life care across its service area.
As Executive Director, Wilson will join the executive leadership team and work closely with the foundation’s Board of Directors to shape the organization’s philanthropic strategy. Her experience in donor engagement will be key as Hospice of the Chesapeake prepares to launch new community health initiatives in 2025. The nonprofit, based in Anne Arundel County, serves patients and families in multiple Maryland counties, including Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s, according to its official website.
Wilson brings a wealth of credentials to the role. She holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, a globally recognized certification for fundraising professionals administered by CFRE International. A 2007 graduate of the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship program, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership Anne Arundel, a nonprofit focused on developing community leaders. Wilson is also a recipient of the YWCA TWIN (Tribute to Women & Industry) Award, recognizing her professional achievements. Her education includes completion of Cornell University’s Executive Leadership Program, enhancing her strategic leadership skills.
A lifelong Calvert County resident, Wilson has deep ties to the region. Her commitment to the community aligns with the organization’s mission to provide compassionate care. “Chris has been an extraordinary leader and an invaluable force behind Hospice of the Chesapeake’s success for many years,” said President and CEO Becky Miller. “Her unwavering dedication, proven expertise, and deep passion for our mission will undoubtedly propel our fundraising efforts to new heights.”
Wilson expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “I am deeply honored to step into this new role and continue serving the community that means so much to me,” she said. “I’ve seen firsthand how our community shows up with generosity and compassion. That unwavering support has been vital to our mission, and I’m committed to strengthening those bonds to ensure we can continue providing care for every family that needs us.”
Chabot’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for the organization. During her 14-year tenure, she oversaw substantial growth in fundraising and community outreach, laying a strong foundation for Wilson’s leadership. The transition reflects Hospice of the Chesapeake’s focus on continuity as it navigates future challenges in healthcare funding and service expansion.
