Leif Liberg, a history teacher at St. Mary’s Ryken High School, has been named the 2025 History Day District Teacher of the Year for St. Mary’s County. The award recognizes Liberg’s dedication to his students and his exceptional guidance in the National History Day program, fostering a passion for historical inquiry.
Liberg’s commitment to teaching shines through in his work mentoring students as they develop research projects for the annual competition, which challenges participants to explore historical topics through presentations, exhibits, or documentaries. His efforts have helped students excel in the rigorous program, which engages over 500,000 students nationwide each year, according to the National History Day organization.
