LA PLATA, Md. — University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center welcomed Jasmin Garcia, LCSW-C, to its Behavioral Health team in La Plata on April 14, 2025. Garcia, a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical and Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor, brings over six years of experience in mental and behavioral health therapy to the medical group, part of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Garcia specializes in working with young children, adolescents, and adults, offering expertise in diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. Her background spans educational and outpatient settings, where she has provided tailored support to diverse populations. The National Alliance on Mental Illness reports that 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness annually, underscoring the need for skilled providers like Garcia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jasmin Garcia to our Behavioral Health team,” said Evalyne Bryant-Ward, CAPPM, MBA, DBA, Vice President of Ambulatory Services at UM Charles Regional Medical Center. “Her compassionate approach and broad experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand our services and support the growing mental health needs of our community.”

Garcia holds a Master of Social Work with an advanced standing in Behavioral Health from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She also earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, and in Social Work from Salisbury University. Her academic training equips her to deliver evidence-based care, aligning with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s emphasis on integrating behavioral health into community settings.

Dedicated to empowering individuals, Garcia focuses on fostering long-term stability and self-sufficiency through personalized therapy. Her skills in trauma-informed care are particularly relevant, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that adverse childhood experiences can impact lifelong mental health. Her addition strengthens UM Charles Regional’s capacity to address rising demand for mental health services in Southern Maryland.

The Behavioral Health team provides outpatient counseling, psychiatric evaluations, and crisis intervention, serving Charles County and surrounding areas. UM Charles Regional has expanded its mental health offerings in recent years to combat provider shortages, a trend affecting 60% of U.S. counties, per the Health Resources and Services Administration. Garcia’s role supports this mission, enhancing access to care for residents.

Patients can schedule appointments with Garcia through UM Charles Regional Medical Group’s Behavioral Health office at 301-609-5440 or online at https://www.umms.org/charles/health-services/behavioral-health. The La Plata clinic operates Monday through Friday, with telehealth options available for select services. New patients should verify insurance coverage, as most plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, are accepted.
