Budds Creek, MD, 4/18/25- After being pushed back a week by wet weather, the highly anticipated season opener at Maryland’s Potomac Speedway was spun off Friday night for first-year promoter David Williams.
The headline Limited Late Model event found Winchester, Virginia’s Kyle Hardy scoring a dominating victory in the 49-lap Dan Garrett Memorial. The win for Hardy, worth $3999, came steering his Mike and Becky Hurley-owned Rocket chassis No.99 and would be Kyle’s 28th overall career feature win at the Southern Maryland bull ring. The redraw placed Hardy on the pole for the start of the event, and that was all he needed as he would lead the distance or eventual runner-up Logan Roberson.
“This place has been special to me and my family for a long time, and to come here and win the first race for David Williams is pretty cool.”
Hardy stated in Victory Lane. “We had a good car tonight, and we were able to keep up with the track as it changed a lot from qualifying to the feature, and a big thanks to Mike and Becky for the opportunity to drive their car, and it’s great to get them a win down here on the first night.”
Jeremy Pilkerton, Kenny Moreland, and 9th starting Dan Breuer would complete the top five. Heat race wins with 28 cars on hand went to Hardy, Roberson, and Brandon Long.
Westminster, Maryland’s Ray Kable came from his second starting spot and would go on to win the 20-lap E-Mod main. “My family has a lot of history down here and this has always been a good track for us so it always feels pretty good when we can get a win down here.” Brent Bordeaux, Rick Hulson, Ryan Toole and 8th starting Robbie Kramer Jr would round out the top five. Heats went to Bordeaux and Joey Polevoy.
In support class action defending track champion Justin Bottorf drove to his 9th career Potomac win in the 15-lap Roadster feature with former track champion Greg Mattingly taking his 26th career win in the 15-lap Strictly Stock feature after apparent winner Nabil Guffey did not report to a mandated post race inspection, giving Mattingly credit for the victory.
