ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – Senior captain Hailey Betch became the St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse all-time points leader with six points, powering the top-seeded Seahawks to a 29-0 shutout over fourth-seeded Cedar Crest College in the United East Conference Championship Tournament semifinals on April 26, 2025. Twelve Seahawks scored, advancing the team to the championship final against Bryn Athyn College on May 3.
Betch, from Severna Park, Maryland, needed two points to surpass Lauren Carrier’s 2009 record of 311 points. She broke the record in the first quarter, assisting senior captain Colin Horton’s goal less than two minutes into the game, giving St. Mary’s a 2-0 lead. Betch finished with three goals and three assists, totaling six points.

The Seahawks overwhelmed Cedar Crest, scoring 13 goals in the first quarter and leading 20-0 at halftime. They held a 42-4 shot advantage and a 26-5 edge in draw controls. St. Mary’s also led 19-10 in ground balls and caused 11 of Cedar Crest’s 19 turnovers, securing a +10 turnover margin. Cedar Crest completed only 7 of 17 clears, a 41.2% success rate.
Senior attacker Ella Baynes, from Baltimore, led with five goals and six points, her best performance as a Seahawk, and added three caused turnovers. Junior attacker Katelin Scala, from Catonsville, tallied a career-high eight points with three goals and five assists. Sophomore defender Claire Boudreau, from Towson, collected a career-best 11 draw controls, scored her second career goal, and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore attacker Sam Collins, from Alexandria, Virginia, scooped up a career-high four ground balls and recorded two assists. Senior goalkeepers Isabel Gautreaux and Allie Greeley split time, with Gautreaux making one save and Greeley recording two saves, one caused turnover, and one ground ball.
Cedar Crest’s Irelyn Yoder made five saves in the first half, and Brynn Rifino stopped four shots in the second half. The Falcons (5-8) struggled offensively against St. Mary’s defense.
St. Mary’s (9-7) will face third-seeded Bryn Athyn College (8-4) in the United East Conference Championship final on May 3 at 1 p.m. at JLR Stadium in St. Mary’s City. Bryn Athyn advanced with a 10-9 win over second-seeded Wilson College in the other semifinal. The Seahawks previously defeated Bryn Athyn 18-7 on April 5.
The St. Mary’s women’s lacrosse team has a strong history in the United East Conference, which includes eight schools competing in the sport. The Seahawks’ depth, with 12 players scoring, and their defensive dominance position them as strong contenders for the title. Cedar Crest concludes their season, having competed in a challenging tournament.
The United East Conference, established in 2021, oversees competitive women’s lacrosse programs, with St. Mary’s consistently ranking among the top teams. The championship game will be a critical opportunity for the Seahawks to add to their legacy.
