Here are five charts to understand Trump’s second term:
1. Executive orders
Trump signed a slew of executive orders in an initial 100-day blitz, easily surpassing the records of former presidents. Most of these executive orders dealt with reshaping the federal government and foreign policy.
2. Immigration
Cracking down on illegal immigration was a leading topic in the Trump campaign, where he set his attention on the millions of undocumented immigrants who live in the United States. He followed through on this during his first 100 days, when the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency took unprecedented steps into workplaces and schools. 3. Federal layoffs
The federal government employs about 10% of Maryland’s workforce. The Trump administration’s job cuts have hit parts of the state particularly hard, affecting federal contractors in Baltimore, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County.
4. Department of Government Efficiency
The Elon Musk-led agency focused its efforts on the General Services Administration, cutting thousands of leases across the country. However, many of those leases were already set to expire or had entered their soft lease termination period.
5. Lawsuits
Trump’s breakneck pace of executive orders led to hundreds of lawsuits across various areas, slowing down some of his agenda.
