LA PLATA, Md., May 1, 2025 — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 301 at Sadie Lane in Charles County, leaving one man dead. The deceased, believed to be the driver of a gray Infiniti involved in the incident, has not yet been positively identified.
The crash occurred shortly before 2:40 a.m., when troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to a report of a collision. According to a preliminary investigation, a gray Infiniti was stopped in lane 2 of southbound Route 301 at Sadie Lane when it was rear-ended by a blue Nissan Rogue driven by Africa Violet, 45, of King George, Virginia. Violet told police that after the collision, the Infiniti’s driver exited his vehicle, ran across the center median, and entered the northbound lanes of Route 301, where a white tractor-trailer struck him.
Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver remained at the scene, and no other injuries were reported. Maryland State Police, assisted by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, La Plata Police Department, and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, managed the scene and road closures. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation.

The investigation is active, with troopers working to determine the factors that contributed to the crash, including why the Infiniti was stopped in the roadway and the circumstances that led to the pedestrian’s actions.
