LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Government has canceled a public hearing for a proposed Crisis Stabilization Center in Charlotte Hall, originally scheduled for the Board of Appeals meeting on May 22, 2025. The applicant, Pascal Crisis Services, Inc., withdrew their application for conditional use approval for the project, located east of the intersection of MD Route 5 and Mount Wolf Road.

The withdrawal halts discussions about the facility, which was intended to provide mental health crisis intervention services. No specific reasons for the withdrawal were disclosed in the county’s announcement. The Board of Appeals meeting will proceed as planned at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge Street, Leonardtown, to address other agenda items. The Crisis Stabilization Center will not be discussed.

For further inquiries, residents can contact Sherrie Young with the Department of Land Use & Growth Management at (301) 475-4200, ext. 1522, or via email at Sherrie.Young@stmaryscountymd.gov.

The cancellation raises questions about the future of mental health services in St. Mary’s County, particularly for crisis stabilization needs. The proposed facility aimed to offer short-term care for individuals experiencing mental health emergencies, a service gap in the region. Pascal Crisis Services, Inc., the applicant, has not indicated whether they plan to resubmit an application or pursue a similar project elsewhere in the county.

The withdrawal of the Crisis Stabilization Center application marks a pause in efforts to expand mental health infrastructure in Charlotte Hall. As St. Mary’s County navigates this development, residents and stakeholders may watch closely for updates on mental health services and future land use proposals in the area.
