WALDORF, Md., May 9, 2025 — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Lancaster Stormers 5-4 in a 10-inning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball game on May 8 at Penn Medicine Park. With 3,116 fans in attendance under partly cloudy skies, the Blue Crabs improved to 6-6, while the Stormers fell to 4-8. The game, lasting 3 hours and 10 minutes, saw Andre Scrubb earn the win, Phillip Diehl take the loss, and Brandon McCabe secure the save.

The Blue Crabs clinched the victory in the 10th inning when Gio Digiacomo hit a two-run homer, scoring Pearce Howard, who started the inning on second base per extra-inning rules. The Stormers responded with one run in the bottom half, as Nick Lucky, placed on second, scored on a fielder’s choice by Slater Schield, but Lancaster could not tie the game.

Lancaster struck first in the opening inning. Nick Ward doubled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Ariel Sandoval, giving the Stormers a 1-0 lead. The Blue Crabs answered in the second when Dondrei Hubbard, hit by a pitch, scored on a single by Cael Chatham. Southern Maryland took a 3-1 lead in the third, powered by Alejandro De Aza’s two-run homer, which also scored Ethan Wilson after his double.

The game remained close, with Lancaster narrowing the gap to 3-2 in the seventh when Joseph Carpenter singled to score Alex Isola, who had doubled. In the eighth, Andrew Semo, hit by a pitch, scored on Ward’s sacrifice fly, tying the game at 3-3. Neither team scored in the ninth, forcing extra innings.

De Aza led the Blue Crabs, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs, and two walks. Digiacomo also drove in two runs with his homer, while Wilson hit two doubles. For Lancaster, Carpenter went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Ward contributed a double and an RBI. The Blue Crabs recorded eight hits to Lancaster’s six, with Southern Maryland committing one error and the Stormers none.

Blue Crabs starter Ian Kahaloa pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Scrubb threw a scoreless ninth, and McCabe closed out the 10th. For the Stormers, A.J. Alexy started, giving up one run over two innings. Diehl, pitching the 10th, allowed Digiacomo’s decisive homer.

The game featured strong defensive play, with Southern Maryland’s Chatham recording six assists and Hubbard nine putouts. Lancaster’s Andrew Semo led with 13 putouts behind the plate. Both teams were active on the basepaths, with the Blue Crabs stealing three bases and the Stormers five, though Lancaster’s Schield was caught stealing in the 10th.
