LATHAM, N.Y. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team secured 11 spots on the 2025 All-United East Conference Teams, announced by the conference office on May 7, 2025, including a program-record eight players on the First Team. Junior Joe Szymanski was named the United East Defensive Player of the Year, marking the third consecutive season a Seahawk has received this honor. The team’s achievements follow a season where they claimed their fourth straight United East tournament title and third consecutive regular-season championship.

Szymanski, a 6-4 defenseman from Easton, Maryland, led the Seahawks with 29 caused turnovers, ranking second in the conference, and collected 80 ground balls, placing fifth. He also contributed a goal and two assists, earning the United East Defensive Player of the Week on March 10 and a spot on the USILA Division III Team of the Week on March 12. His Defensive Player of the Year award follows previous Seahawk honorees Ethan Little in 2023 and 2024, with earlier Players of the Year including Greg Matthews in 1993, Jude Brown in 2022, Keegan Preis in 2023, and Joshua Martel in 2024.

Joining Szymanski on the First Team are seniors Keegan Preis, Nate Hochrein, Aiden Doyle, Jeremy Heath, and Quinnten Hatfield, along with juniors Matteo Ciccarello and Adam Martin. Preis, a 6-0 attackman, ranked fourth in the conference with 33 assists and sixth with 58 points, concluding his career as the program’s all-time assists leader with 164. Hochrein, a 6-3 midfielder, posted 25 assists and 46 points, earning his first First Team nod after a Second Team selection last year. Doyle, the 2022 United East Rookie of the Year, led the conference with 56 goals and ranked second with 77 points, graduating as the program’s all-time goals leader with 155.

Heath, a 5-10 defenseman, tied for fourth in the conference with 19 caused turnovers, while Hatfield, a 6-4 short-stick defensive midfielder, ranked sixth with 18 caused turnovers. Ciccarello, a 6-1 face-off specialist, led the United East with 236 face-off wins and 129 ground balls, ranking 42nd nationally in ground balls per game. Martin, a 5-11 long-stick midfielder, tied for eighth in the conference with 16 caused turnovers in his first season as a starter.

Seniors Jake Levey and sophomore Declan Horton earned Second Team honors. Levey, a 5-6 midfielder, tied for eighth in the conference with 16 assists and added 15 goals. Horton, a 6-2 attackman, ranked third in the United East with 44 goals and fifth with 60 points, earning two United East Offensive Player of the Week awards.

The Seahawks, with a 10-8 record, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament for the third consecutive year. Their season was marked by standout performances, with players earning multiple weekly conference and national honors. Preis was named United East Offensive Player of the Week on March 24, Doyle on March 17 with a USILA Team of the Week nod on March 19, and Heath secured two Defensive Player of the Week awards.

St. Mary’s College, has built a strong lacrosse program, evidenced by its consistent conference dominance and NCAA tournament appearances. The 2025 All-United East selections highlight the team’s depth, with players excelling in offensive, defensive, and specialized roles.
