Mechanicsville, Md. — A head-on collision on Mechanicsville Road killed one person and critically injured two others on May 30, 2025, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. The crash, reported at 1:15 p.m. in the 25000 block, involved a 2018 Toyota Highlander and a 2013 Chrysler 200. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found that the Toyota Highlander, driven by Marjorie Swann Boyers, 79, of Chaptico, had collided with the Chrysler 200, operated by Megan Nicole Rowley, 31, of Mechanicsville. A juvenile passenger was in the Chrysler during the incident. Boyers was pronounced dead at the scene. Rowley and the juvenile were airlifted to a regional trauma center, where they remain in critical condition.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation due to the crash’s severity. Preliminary findings suggest Boyers was traveling southbound when her vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons, entering the path of Rowley’s northbound car. Investigators have ruled out speed and driver impairment as contributing factors at this stage.

Corporal Vincent Pontorno is seeking witnesses or video footage related to the collision. Anyone with information is urged to contact him at 301-475-4200, ext. 2337, or via email at Vincent.Pontorno@stmaryscountymd.gov. The sheriff’s office emphasized that statements or footage from those who have not yet come forward could aid the investigation.

The crash disrupted traffic on Mechanicsville Road for several hours as deputies and emergency responders managed the scene. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting a detailed analysis, including vehicle inspections and road condition assessments, to establish a clear sequence of events. No additional details about the victims’ conditions or the investigation’s progress were available as of May 31, 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities prioritizing a thorough review of all available evidence. Community members expressed shock on social media, with many offering condolences to the victims’ families. The sheriff’s office has not released further information about the juvenile passenger or Rowley’s current status, citing privacy concerns.
