YORK, Pa., June 2, 2025 — The York Revolution secured a 5-3 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in an Atlantic League of Professional Baseball game at WellSpan Park on Sunday afternoon. With 2,273 fans in attendance under sunny 75-degree weather, the Revolution improved to 22-11, while the Blue Crabs fell to 17-16. The game, which lasted 1 hour and 58 minutes, saw York overcome an early deficit with timely hitting and solid pitching to clinch the win.

The Blue Crabs struck first in the second inning when John Taylor doubled and scored on Sam Dexter’s double, taking a 1-0 lead. They extended their advantage in the third when Ethan Wilson hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season, making it 2-0. Southern Maryland added another run in the fourth, capitalizing on a York error. Giovanni Digiacomo singled, and an error by York’s Jalen Miller allowed Taylor to reach base, setting up Brett Barrera’s RBI single that scored Digiacomo for a 3-1 lead.

York responded in the third, cutting the deficit to 2-1 when Ryan Higgins singled and scored on Marty Costes’ sacrifice fly. The Revolution tied the game in the fourth with Jeffrey Wehler’s solo home run, his fourth of the season. In the fifth, Higgins singled and scored on Frankie Tostado’s single, giving York a 3-3 tie. The decisive moment came in the sixth, when Justin Acal, pinch-running for Wehler, scored on Higgins’ single, and Bubba Alleyne crossed the plate on Michael Berglund’s sacrifice fly, securing a 5-3 lead.

York’s pitching sealed the victory. Starter Matt Walker allowed three runs over 5.2 innings, striking out seven. Mauricio Llovera, earning the win, pitched a scoreless 0.1 innings, and Cam Robinson closed the game with a scoreless seventh, earning his save. For the Blue Crabs, Shawn Semple took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings with three strikeouts.

Higgins led York’s offense, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Wehler contributed two hits, including his home run, while Costes and Berglund each drove in a run via sacrifice flies. For Southern Maryland, Wilson’s home run and Barrera’s RBI single paced the offense, with Dexter and Taylor adding doubles. The Blue Crabs left five runners on base, while York stranded five.

The game featured one error by York’s Miller, which led to an unearned run for Southern Maryland. Defensively, York’s first baseman Frankie Tostado recorded eight putouts, and catcher Michael Berglund handled eight chances flawlessly. Southern Maryland’s Alejandro De Aza and Digiacomo each had four putouts in center field before De Aza shifted to center and Pearce Howard entered in left.

The Atlantic League, a partner league of Major League Baseball, features competitive play among its 10 teams, split between North and South Divisions. The Blue Crabs, based in Waldorf, Maryland, represent Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties and have played at Regency Furniture Stadium since 2008. The York Revolution, part of the North Division, have been a consistent contender, bolstered by their 2025 roster’s offensive depth.

Sunday’s matchup highlighted the teams’ contrasting fortunes. York’s ability to rally from behind showcased their resilience, while Southern Maryland struggled to convert opportunities late in the game. The Blue Crabs’ next game is scheduled against the Long Island Ducks on June 3 at 6:35 p.m., while York continues its homestand.
