ST. MARY’S CITY, Md., June 11, 2025 — Giselle Harris, a senior from Easton, Maryland, was named the United East Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women’s Tennis on June 5, 2025, recognizing her excellence in competition, academics, and community service. Harris, a three-year team captain for St. Mary’s College, graduated with a 3.987 GPA as a psychology and Spanish double major and economics minor, embodying the ideal student-athlete.
Head Coach Sona Brymer praised Harris’s leadership, saying, “Giselle has been a team captain for three years and has always set the example for our team of what an accomplished student-athlete should be. She leads by example in the classroom, on the court, and everywhere else. I am beyond proud of her for earning this honor and know her positivity, kindness, and leadership will have a lasting impact on the team.” The award, in its third year, honors seniors or graduate students with a minimum 3.5 GPA, significant team contributions, and active leadership and community involvement.

Harris’s academic record is stellar. She made the Dean’s List every semester, maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA across at least 12 credit hours per semester. She is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society, and Phi Beta Kappa. Harris earned United East Scholar-Athlete honors in 2022 and 2023, was named to the United East Winter/Spring All-Academic Team in her final two seasons, and secured three consecutive Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete awards. She also landed on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team as a sophomore and junior.
On the court, Harris amassed 41 doubles wins and 32 singles victories, earning eight All-United East selections, including three First Team singles awards and two First Team doubles honors. Her contributions helped St. Mary’s College clinch United East regular-season titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025, as well as tournament championships in 2022 and 2023. Harris is the second St. Mary’s women’s tennis player to receive the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, following Hannah Gorel in 2023.
Beyond academics and athletics, Harris served her community by using her Spanish skills to assist a family for whom English was a second language. Her commitment to service aligns with the award’s criteria, which emphasize active community involvement. St. Mary’s College has seen 12 Seahawks earn the United East Senior Scholar-Athlete Award since its inception, including Devon Gorel and Quinnten Hatfield in 2025.
The United East Conference, which includes St. Mary’s College among its member institutions, highlights student-athletes who excel holistically. Harris’s achievements reflect the college’s emphasis on fostering well-rounded individuals.
