ST. MARY’S CITY, Md., June 12, 2025 — Quinnten Hatfield, a 2025 graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, received the United East Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete Award for Men’s Lacrosse on June 5. The award honors a senior who excels in competition, academics, and community service, marking Hatfield as the first men’s lacrosse player from St. Mary’s to earn this distinction.

“What an incredible honor it is to have had this young man be a part of my life, our program, and our institution the last four years,” said Head Coach Jason Childs, in his 10th year. “His impact within our locker room has been so special and unique. As a captain, he was asked to mentor so many young men, and he did so with ease as he continued to put forth the work he needed to accomplish something like this.”

Hatfield, a team captain from Bel Air, Maryland, graduated with a 3.982 GPA, double majoring in physics and computer science with a mathematics minor. He made the Dean’s List every semester, requiring a minimum 3.50 GPA across 12 credit hours. Hatfield is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society, and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics and astronomy honor society. He earned the Physics Department Service Award in 2023 and served as a physics teaching assistant during the 2023-24 academic year.

On the field, Hatfield, a 6-4 short-stick defensive midfielder, was a three-time Honorable Mention USILA All-American (2023, 2024, 2025) and three-time All-United East selection, with First Team honors in 2023 and 2025 and Second Team in 2024. In his senior season, he ranked sixth in the conference with 18 caused turnovers, third on the team, and fifth with 34 ground balls, adding four goals and three assists. Over his career, he amassed 153 ground balls, 57 caused turnovers, 22 goals, and 10 assists, contributing to four United East tournament titles and three regular-season championships.

Academically, Hatfield was a two-time United East Scholar-Athlete (2021, 2022) and landed on the United East Winter/Spring All-Academic Team in 2024 and 2025. He claimed the United East Elite 20 Award in 2023 and 2024 and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams in 2023 and 2024.

In the community, Hatfield was active in the St. Mary’s College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participating in a trick-or-treat community event and a Special Olympics Field Day, demonstrating his commitment to service.

The United East Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, in its third year, requires a senior or graduate student with at least two years of competition at their institution, a 3.5 or higher GPA, significant team contributions, and evidence of leadership and community service. St. Mary’s has had 12 Seahawks earn this honor, including Hatfield, Giselle Harris (Women’s Tennis), and Devon Gorel (Men’s Tennis) in 2025.

“He is quite a remarkable young man, and I am so grateful to have had him here every day for the last four years shaping our culture and demanding the standard of greatness we believe in,” Childs said.

Hatfield’s achievements reflect the student-athlete model, balancing rigorous academics, athletic excellence, and community engagement. His leadership as a captain and mentor has left a lasting impact on the Seahawks’ lacrosse program.
