PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners presented citations on June 23, 2025, to three honorees for their significant contributions to the community: retiring County Administrator Julian “Mark” Willis, the Humane Society of Calvert County, and the Ladies of Charity Calvert County. The recognitions highlight decades of service, compassion, and leadership that have strengthened the county.

Julian “Mark” Willis, set to retire on June 30, 2025, was honored for over 24 years of service to Calvert County Government. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Willis joined the county in 2000, holding various leadership roles before becoming county administrator in 2020. “Mark’s leadership has been a cornerstone of our progress,” said a county spokesperson during the presentation. His tenure saw advancements in infrastructure, community services, and administrative efficiency, earning him widespread respect.

The Humane Society of Calvert County was celebrated for 50 years of compassionate service to animals. The nonprofit has rescued and rehomed countless dogs, promoted responsible pet ownership, and provided essential community education. Its efforts have improved animal welfare and strengthened community ties through outreach and adoption programs.

The Ladies of Charity Calvert County received a citation for their decades-long commitment to serving those in need. The organization has provided consistent food assistance and recently achieved a milestone by building a new pantry on Dayton Avenue in North Beach. This facility enhances their ability to support residents facing food insecurity, reflecting their mission of compassion.

“Please join us in congratulating Mr. Willis, the Humane Society as well as the Ladies of Charity Calvert County for their inspiring contributions to Calvert County,” the Board of County Commissioners stated.

In addition to the citations, the commissioners attended the 2025 Legislative Wrap-Up for the 29th District, alongside Senator Jack Bailey and Delegate Todd Morgan. The event provided a platform to discuss key legislation and its impact on Calvert County, fostering collaboration between local and state officials to address community needs.

The honorees’ contributions reflect Calvert County’s commitment to service and community welfare. Willis’s leadership guided the county through periods of growth and challenge, while the Humane Society and Ladies of Charity have addressed critical needs in animal care and food security. These efforts align with the county’s broader goals of enhancing quality of life for all residents.

The Legislative Wrap-Up underscored the importance of aligning local priorities with state policies.
