
LEONARDTOWN, Md., June 24, 2025 — A Hollywood man was arrested on June 22, 2025, after allegedly firing a shotgun and threatening a repossession agent during an early-morning confrontation. Douglas Aaron Chance, 49, faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault and illegal firearm possession, following the incident at a residence in the 25000 block of Gallant Fox Drive.
At approximately 5:20 a.m., St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of an assault. The victim, a repossession agent, told deputies he had arrived to seize a vehicle when Chance exited the home, fired a shotgun at the victim’s truck, pointed the weapon at him, and threatened to shoot. The victim fled and called 911. Deputies found spent shell casings at the scene, corroborating the victim’s account.
Investigators identified Chance as the suspect and arrested him. He was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000. Further investigation revealed Chance is barred from possessing firearms due to prior convictions, leading to additional charges of possession of a shotgun after a felony conviction and possession of a shotgun after a disqualifying crime.
Chance was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he awaits a bond hearing. The sheriff’s office has not released details about the victim’s condition or the extent of damage to the truck.
