WALDORF, Md. — Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has partnered with Giant Food Store for the 2025 Nourishing Our Youth Giant Food Round Up Program, running through July 31, 2025, at local Giant stores in Charles County. The initiative allows customers to round up their purchase totals at checkout to support CCPS food and meal programs aimed at addressing childhood hunger.

The program, part of Giant Food’s annual effort to raise funds for local public school systems, supports initiatives such as weekend backpack programs and meals for events at Title I schools. In 2024, CCPS received over $17,000 through the program, which funded snacks, meals, and food supplies for students in need. The Nourishing Our Youth Round Up Program is designed to make donating simple and accessible. At checkout, Giant customers are prompted to round up their total to the nearest dollar, with all proceeds going directly to CCPS’s nutrition programs. The funds help ensure students have access to meals during weekends and school events, particularly in communities served by Title I schools, which receive federal funding to support low-income students.

CCPS’s partnership with Giant Food reflects a shared commitment to addressing food insecurity among students. The weekend backpack program, one of the beneficiaries, provides students with non-perishable food items to take home, ensuring they have access to nutrition when school meals are unavailable. In 2024, the program supported hundreds of students across Charles County, with donations covering the cost of items like granola bars, canned goods, and breakfast cereals.

Giant Food, a regional grocery chain, has operated the Round Up Program for several years, collaborating with school districts to combat childhood hunger. The 2025 campaign builds on the success of previous years, with Giant leveraging its network of stores to engage customers in Charles County. The program’s structure encourages small, incremental donations that collectively make a significant impact, as demonstrated by the $17,000 raised for CCPS in 2024.

The Round Up Program operates exclusively at Giant Food stores in Charles County, ensuring that donations directly benefit CCPS students. Customers can participate at any point during the campaign, which runs daily through July 31. No minimum purchase is required, and the option to round up is offered at both staffed and self-checkout registers.

CCPS has expressed gratitude for the community’s support, noting that the funds make a tangible difference for students. The district plans to use the 2025 donations to expand the reach of its backpack program and provide additional meals at school events. With the cost of food rising, the contributions help offset expenses and maintain program quality.
