The Town of North Beach will launch the North Beach parking project on August 11, 2025, to improve traffic safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance accessibility along key roadways. The initiative, focused on Chesapeake and Bay Avenues between 1st and 9th Streets, includes repainting faded curb markings, installing standardized signage, and enforcing updated parking regulations. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office will begin enforcement after the project’s estimated completion on August 18, 2025.

The North Beach parking project addresses faded or inconsistent roadway markings that have caused confusion for drivers and emergency responders, particularly during large waterfront events. Using a GIS map for precise placement, the town will repaint fire lanes (red), handicapped parking areas (blue), resident-only parking on 7th Street (green), lane dividers and no-passing zones (yellow), and crosswalks, stop lines, and bike paths (white). Temporary cones will be removed once permanent markings are applied, streamlining the streetscape.

The North Beach parking project aims to enhance safety for pedestrians, drivers, and first responders while ensuring compliance with fire, ADA, and parking standards. Enforcement by the Sheriff’s Office will ensure fire lanes remain clear, handicapped spaces are accessible, and illegal parking is addressed. The town emphasizes that the goal is safety and fairness, not penalization. Residents will receive advance notice through town communications before enforcement begins.

Temporary lane closures or detours may occur during the North Beach parking project, with clear signage to minimize disruptions. The painting process, expected to take a few days per area, could be affected by weather or contractor schedules, with updates posted on the town’s website. While some street parking may be reconfigured to meet safety and accessibility requirements, impacts will be minimal, balancing resident needs with regulatory compliance.

The North Beach parking project targets the commercial waterfront district due to its high traffic during events. Future phases may extend to other areas based on traffic patterns and community feedback. Residents can report improper parking or missing signage to Town Hall at (301) 855-6681 or info@northbeachmd.org, or contact the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at (410) 535-2800 for urgent issues.

The North Beach parking project reflects a proactive approach to infrastructure improvement, leveraging advanced GIS mapping for accuracy. The permanent markings and regulations are designed to maintain an orderly, safe streetscape, with ongoing monitoring to address future needs. For questions, residents can contact Town Hall directly.
