St. Mary’s County, Maryland – Licensed therapist Jennifer Clancy launched her Jennifer Clancy for Delegate campaign for Maryland House of Delegates District 29A on August 7, 2025, aiming to represent northern St. Mary’s County with a focus on education, healthcare and community equity. The Democrat seeks to succeed incumbent Republican Matthew Morgan in the 2026 election, emphasizing policies that support families and constitutional rights in a district tied to military and rural interests.
Clancy highlighted her personal and professional experiences in the announcement, drawing from her upbringing as a Navy dependent to underscore community strength. “As a mother, a former small business owner, and a proud member of the northern St. Mary’s community, I’ve seen firsthand how strong we can be when we work together,” Clancy said. “We’re living in a time where the need for equitable solutions and social justice has never been more urgent. I’m running for State Delegate because I believe in our Constitutional promise that all members of our community shall be afforded the rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
District 29A covers northern St. Mary’s County, including Leonardtown and Hollywood, with about 45,000 residents reliant on agriculture, defense at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, and tourism. The District is currently represented by Republican Matt Morgan. Democrat Brian Crosby has held the seat since 2019, winning reelection in 2022 with 52 percent against Republican Chris Wahl. Crosby, a former teacher, has sponsored legislation on education funding and veteran services, but as of August 2025, he has not announced reelection plans. The Jennifer Clancy for Delegate effort enters a potentially competitive field ahead of the June 23, 2026, primary and November 3, 2026, general election.

Our ideals are how we ensure security, health, justice and wellbeing for all. When we work towards building our Community, we thrive.”
Clancy’s military family background, including frequent moves, shaped her views on community resilience. Adopted by grandparents brothers father, after her mother’s struggles, she emphasizes compassionate care. In St. Mary’s County, she connects with constituents on issues like base relocations and rural healthcare access.

The Jennifer Clancy for Delegate bid aligns with Maryland trends, where delegates tackle local needs like Patuxent River base support and Chesapeake Bay protections. Southern Maryland, with St. Mary’s County’s 113,000 residents, prioritizes mental health expansions post-pandemic, echoing Clancy’s expertise. Candidates file by February 27, 2026, with the state board certifying. Clancy’s platform resonates in a Democratic-leaning district.
