Lusby — A 95-year-old man from Silver Spring died after a multi-vehicle collision in Lusby on August 15, 2025, that also seriously injured two others, according to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. The Lusby fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Solomons Island Road, also known as Route 4, and Coster Road.
Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau responded to the scene at approximately 3:49 p.m. following reports of a serious motor vehicle collision with injuries. Given the severity of the Lusby fatal crash, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit arrived and took over the investigation.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2004 Honda Civic, operated by Anthony Valentine, 18, of Milford, Delaware, was traveling south on Route 4 as it approached Coster Road. A juvenile female occupied the front passenger seat of the Honda Civic. Her identity is being withheld because of her age.
At the same time, a 2011 Toyota Avalon, operated by Hollis Clinton Ruoff Jr., 95, of Silver Spring, was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Route 4 onto Coster Road. The Honda Civic struck the passenger side of the Toyota Avalon in the Lusby fatal crash.
Following the initial impact, both the Toyota Avalon and the Honda Civic veered to the right side of the roadway. They then collided with two stationary vehicles waiting at the traffic light on Coster Road. Those vehicles were a 2015 Dodge Dart, operated by Dale Young Jr., 33, of Lusby, and a 2017 Ford Explorer, operated by Karen Nolin, 60, of Prince Frederick.
As a result of the Lusby fatal crash, Valentine and the juvenile female were flown to regional trauma centers by Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopters. Both sustained serious injuries. Young was transported by ground ambulance to Calvert Health Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Ruoff was also taken by ground ambulance to Calvert Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Nolin received medical treatment at the scene and was released.
