OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Stevenson University on September 13, 2025, extending their unbeaten streak to two games despite playing with 10 players for nearly 69 minutes. The Seahawks, now 3-3-1, triumphed on the road against the Mustangs (3-3-0) in a tightly contested match, with goals from junior midfielder Tyler Foti and junior forward Franco Reyes proving decisive.
The game, played at Stevenson’s Mustang Stadium, saw St. Mary’s take an early lead in the 10th minute. Foti, from Annandale, Virginia, scored on a low free kick just outside the penalty box, finding the lower left corner for his first goal of the season. The momentum shifted at 21:38 when senior captain Jack Nelson of Ellicott City, Maryland, received a straight red card, forcing the Seahawks to play a man down for the remainder of the match. Stevenson capitalized at 28:33, as Zack Reightler dribbled into the box and fired a right-footed shot off the far post to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
In the second half, St. Mary’s regained the lead in the 65th minute. Sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum of Richmond, Virginia, delivered a long pass to Reyes, from Silver Spring, Maryland, who split two defenders, took a few dribbles, and slotted the ball past Mustang goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick for his second goal of the season. Despite Stevenson’s aggressive push, firing six shots and earning five corner kicks in the final 25 minutes, Seahawks junior goalkeeper Zack Reed of Leonardtown, Maryland, made two critical saves to preserve the 2-1 lead. Reed’s six saves matched his career high, improving his record to 2-2-0.
Stevenson held a 17-8 edge in shots, including 8-4 in shots on goal, and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Mustangs committed nine fouls and received one yellow card, while St. Mary’s recorded six fouls, two yellow cards, and one red. Olson-Warwick made two saves for Stevenson, whose three-game win streak ended. The match marked the fourth time this season the Seahawks played with 10 players, showcasing their resilience under pressure.
The team’s ability to secure wins despite ejections highlights their defensive discipline and strategic adjustments. Coach Alun Oliver emphasized post-game that the team’s focus on possession and counterattacks was key against Stevenson’s pressure.
The Seahawks return to action on September 20, hosting Bridgewater College (4-1-0) at JLR Stadium in St. Mary’s City at 5 p.m. The match follows a season where St. Mary’s has balanced offensive output with stout defending, a trend they’ll aim to continue at home.
