LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A 20-year-old volunteer firefighter suffered stab wounds to his upper body during a robbery and assault by three suspects in Lexington Park on Sunday evening, escaping on foot before driving himself to a fire station for aid.

The incident began around 9:35 p.m. in the 21000 block of Spyglass Way, a residential neighborhood of townhomes and apartments off Great Mills Road near the Patuxent River. Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to an initial report of a suspicious occurrence involving a man fleeing three pursuers. Witnesses described seeing the three individuals chasing one person through the dimly lit streets, prompting a secondary call moments later about an assault victim arriving at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department on South Shangri-La Drive.

At the station, deputies found the victim bleeding from multiple upper-body wounds. He identified himself as a member of the Bay District company, which provides emergency services to the Lexington Park district encompassing over 12 square miles and 20,000 residents. Investigators linked him to the earlier chase, determining the attack stemmed from a planned meeting with an acquaintance that turned violent. The victim stated the three male suspects confronted him, demanded his belongings, and stabbed him during a struggle over his wallet and phone. He broke free, ran several blocks to his parked vehicle, and drove to the firehouse — a move that aligned with training for off-duty personnel to seek immediate colleague support in crises.

Maryland State Police Trooper 7, the aviation unit based at the St. Mary’s County Regional Airport, landed nearby to medevac the victim to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo with serious injuries. Medical teams stabilized him en route, applying tourniquets and monitoring vitals amid blood loss concerns common in penetrating trauma. He underwent evaluation and treatment before release later that night, avoiding overnight admission.
