A 32-year-old Mechanicsville man died from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Maryland Route 234 in Newburg on November 15, 2025.

Mark Wroble Jr., driver of a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, was pronounced deceased on November 16, 2025, at approximately 7:07 p.m. at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He had been transported there following the crash with serious injuries.

The incident occurred at about 7:41 a.m. on November 15 when troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Crain Highway and Budds Creek Road for reports of a serious motor vehicle collision. The Maryland State Police CRASH Team, a specialized unit that investigates complex and fatal crashes, assumed the investigation due to the severity.

Preliminary findings indicate Wroble’s Nissan Pathfinder, occupied by four passengers, was stopped on Maryland Route 234 at the red traffic signal on U.S. Route 301. A 2021 Ford Explorer, driven by Brett Adams, 54, of Leonardtown and occupied by Judy Adams, 62, also of Leonardtown, was stopped directly behind the Pathfinder.

A 2009 Nissan Maxima driven by Rodney Clark, 33, of Port Tobacco, was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 301 approaching the intersection. The Maxima veered off the right side of the roadway, struck a storm drain and ditch, became airborne, and impacted the driver’s side of the Pathfinder. The force pushed the Pathfinder and Maxima into the Ford Explorer.

Wroble suffered serious injuries requiring airlift or advanced transport to the trauma center in Washington, D.C. All other individuals involved, including the four passengers in the Pathfinder, Brett and Judy Adams in the Explorer, and Clark in the Maxima, were transported to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The intersection was closed for several hours during the on-scene investigation and clearance. No charges have been announced as the probe continues into factors such as speed, roadway conditions, and potential distractions.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision can contact Sergeant J. Zimmerman of the MSP CRASH Team at 301-392-1231 or via email at justin.zimmerman@maryland.gov.

The response involved coordinated efforts from state police, sheriff’s deputies, and emergency medical services, highlighting standard protocols for multi-casualty events in rural Southern Maryland settings where trauma centers may require transfers to facilities in La Plata, Prince George’s County, or the District.

As the investigation proceeds, updates will come from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack or the CRASH Team.
