LEONARDTOWN – Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department units knocked down a residential trailer fire Saturday afternoon in the 23000 block of Point Lookout Road, containing the blaze within minutes of arrival.
The call came in at 12:37 p.m. with multiple 911 callers reporting flames visible from a trailer along the heavily traveled state route. Engine 10 and Truck 1 from Station 1 on Washington Street responded as first-due units.
Engine 10 arrived to find fire showing from the single-wide structure. Crews deployed a handline and made an aggressive interior attack, achieving a rapid knockdown. Truck 1 assisted with opening up walls and ceilings during overhaul to ensure no hidden fire remained.
No injuries were reported. The sole occupant was out of the trailer when firefighters arrived, according to department personnel on scene.
Units from Leonardtown VFD operated for approximately one hour before clearing and returning to quarters. Mutual-aid companies that had been placed on standby were released without responding.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and is investigating the cause and origin. A deputy fire marshal responded to the scene Saturday afternoon; the official report remains pending.
