LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office unveiled a completely redesigned website December 4 at www.FirstSheriff.com, providing residents with faster access to public safety resources on desktop and mobile devices.
The updated platform features a modern, clean layout with simplified navigation menus and enhanced readability. Commonly requested pages — including news releases, employment listings, detention center services, and division contacts — now appear more prominently.
Sheriff’s Office leaders described the redesign as part of a broader effort to strengthen transparency and community engagement.
The new site automatically adjusts to any screen size, making it easier for residents to report tips, check sex offender registry information, request records, or learn about agency programs while on the go.
Key changes include: • Mobile-responsive design for phones and tablets • Streamlined top-level menus and search function • Refreshed content sections with larger text and clearer organization • Consolidated public resources such as forms, permits, and emergency alerts
Additional pages and features will roll out over the coming weeks, officials said. The agency has already migrated years of archived news releases and updated contact directories for patrol, criminal investigations, corrections, and administrative divisions.
The previous website, launched more than a decade ago, had grown difficult to maintain and navigate on smartphones, which now account for the majority of visits to county government sites.
Residents can submit feedback or suggestions directly through a contact form on the new site or by emailing SMCSO.PIO@stmaryscountymd.gov. The Public Information Office will monitor input to guide future enhancements.
The domain www.FirstSheriff.com remains the primary address; the site also continues to be reachable through links on the main St. Mary’s County Government page at www.stmarysmd.com.
